Coach John and Joan McKissick

Coach John McKissick is the winningest football coach in the United States, at any level! Over his 63 years as coach for the Summerville High School Green Wave, he had 621 wins and 10 state championships, never missing a game. The football stadium in the town of Summerville, SC was recently renovated and named after their famous coach. The Magnolia Group, who commissioned the sculpture, wanted his wife Joan to be included, feeling that she had always been by his side and was a big part of the football family, only missing 3 games over his long career. When the sculpture was unveiled, Joan took my hand and thanked me. She said when she was feeling sad or just needed to talk with John, she was going to bring her chair down to the sculpture and just sit with him. I really do get to meet the nicest people!
